The famous violinist and conductor Sir Yehudi Menuhin was Patron of the Philatelic Music Circle for 30 years from 1969 until his death in 1999. After his death, the PMC members decided to award the price for the most popular music stamp in memory of Sir Yehudi Menuhin. The award is named after Lord Menuhin with the full agreement of his family.
Yehudi Menuhin was born in New York in 1916. Aged only nine he gave his first solo concert. As a famous violinist and conductor he traveled around the whole world. Besides of his career he always promoted young and talented musicians. Yehudi Menuhin died in Berlin in 1999.
