He died in his hometown on April 29, 1905. July 2022 will be his 175th birthday.<\/div><\/div><div class=\"gdc_column gdc_chalf\"><div class=\"gdc_inner\"><center><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.motivgruppe-musik.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/2022-07-a.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"220\" class=\"alignnone\" \/><br \/>\n<strong>Cuba 15.9.1997<\/strong><\/center><\/div><\/div><\/div><br \/>\n<div class=\"gdc_row\"><div class=\"gdc_column gdc_cthird\"><div class=\"gdc_inner\"><center><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.motivgruppe-musik.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/2022-07-b.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" class=\"alignnone\" \/><br \/>\n<strong>Cuba 27.6.1959<\/strong><\/center><\/div><\/div><div class=\"gdc_column gdc_ctwo-thirds\"><div class=\"gdc_inner\">Cervantes was considered a child prodigy and was taught by the American composer Louis Moreau Gottschalk, among others. Gottschalk encouraged him to study at the Conservatoire de Paris (1866-1870), where he received first prizes for composition (1866) and harmony (1867) and gave concerts with Christina Nilsson and Adelina Patti.<br \/>\nCervantes was one of the first musicians to emphasize the special character of the Central and South American peoples in their music. <\/div><\/div><\/div>As a supporter of the Cuban rebels, he had to leave the country temporarily in 1875 and lived in Mexico and the United States for several years. Ignacio Cervantes composed an opera, various pieces of chamber music, zarzuelas and the famous forty-one &#8220;Danzas Cubanas&#8221;. He wrote his &#8220;Fusi\u00f3n de Almas&#8221; for his daughter Mar\u00eda Cervantes (1885-1981), who became a well-known pianist, composer and singer.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n<center><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"430\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/GcTJw9_nS_Y\" title=\"YouTube video player\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><br \/>\nThe video shows the Orquestra De Guiarres De Barcelona conducted by Sergi Vicente performing a medley of Ignacio Cervantes&#8217; &#8220;Danzas Cubanas&#8221;.
