50th anniversary of Nikola Badev death
On October 15, 2026, the postal service of North Macedonia issued a postage stamp in honor of Nikola Badev. This well-known Macedonian folk singer and a dedicated collector of Macedonian folklore, Nikola Badev was born on August 8, 1918, in Glisic, near Kavadarci. Through his voice and his love for folk music, he revived the spirit of traditional cultural heritage. He was self-taught and mastered several musical instruments. A poem by Vaska Ilieva, written in 1980, is titled “A Song for Nikola Badev.” By that time, Badev had already passed away—he died (presumably) on September 25, 1976. This special commemorative stamp, released to mark the 50th anniversary of his death, features—in my view—a beautiful combination of his portrait, a musical instrument, and a microphone.
